Storyline:
Nishaanchi (2025) is an intimate crime drama directed by Anurag Kashyap. The story begins with two twin brothers—both with the same identity but completely different paths—one follows a legal path, the other falls into the trap of crime. Their decisions, greed, revenge, and brotherhood come to the fore one after the other in a brutal manner. The film explores love, bonds, betrayals, and the struggle for freedom. The childhood bond between the brothers gradually breaks down due to rivalry and lack of character. In the end, there is a continuous search for peace and justice—and this search is the film’s post-dramatic moment that announces the next chapter.
The main part of this film is that the flaws of a social infrastructure, abuse of power, and the impact of a red economy are revealed through the journey of the two brothers. The character analysis clearly shows the difference between the twin brothers: one is fighting for his life as a common man, the other is trying to establish himself in the world of crime. New face Aaishvary Thackeray plays this role in a double role—‘Bablu Nishanchi’ and ‘Wablu Nishanchi’—where his differences, conflicts and consequences are seen from multiple angles. Besides, experienced actresses like Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar and Kumud Mishra strengthen the emotion and reality of the story. As a true-to-life model, although the film is not based on any specific real case, it is clearly inspired by the general social and geo-regional crime-politics of India—where money, gangster politics, place-based friendships and the power of governance are intertwined. Anurag Kashyap himself said that he had been writing this story since 2016, so it is also a timely socio-pictorial.
