Storyline: On Halloween night, 15-year-old magician Max (Kaitlyn Trentham) is caught in a trick of his own by his dangerous adversary, the Jester (Michael Sheffield) – a masked and supernatural trickster whose magic has now become deadly. A web of obstacles and deception is laid out in the martial light, every escape route becoming a clever trap. In the end, Max must face the only challenge – staying alive will be his greatest magic.
The film’s core is a classic slasher thriller structure: a young woman navigates fear, illusion, and trauma as her normal world takes on a terrifying form. Character analysis finds Max’s character struggling not with superhero-style battles, but with her own fears and will to survive. The Jester—not just a villain—is a trickster, a kind of monstrous, transformed magician, who is challenged by both manipulation and fear. As a true-to-life model, the film doesn’t mimic a real story, but it does reinvent the “magic vs. monster” or “girl vs. ghoul” metaphor within horror and Halloween-themed movies—much like old slasher films. Director Colin Krawchuk says they’ve incorporated the “viral short film” jester character into a fully global release film.
